If you think there is even ONE PERSON who wants this, then I encourage you to continue.

I don't care about low particles, but no particles=WIN. My rig lags out to like 4 fps when there's particles (yes, it's a sad rig, but for some reason, which I tested yesterday, when I play on a better computer with vista, it lags more o_O). Totally impossible to play in multiplayer when if you spawn at a developed base, you get 5 seconds of lag before you can move (aka spawn->lag->death->spawn countdown->spawn->lag->death). When will the finished version be out?

Unfortunately, I cannot give a solid time estimate. There are occasional complications, both with the files themselves (picking and choosing which effects to disable on Tempests, which is more complicated than most) and with real life (I just got back from attending my friends' wedding. Congratulations, David and Mayumi!)

I am, however, releasing this piece-by-piece, so don't hesitate to download the incomplete versions! A number of people have attested to the effectiveness of my first version already!

As I stated previously, my current focus is siege units. After that, I will likely turn to beast infantry, followed by human infantry. Then it'll be hellbourne, NPCs, items, and finally I'll see if I can't disable snow and raining embers (which I doubt will be hard at all, considering how I've already killed raindrops).

Please don't hesitate to let me know which invokes the MOST lag, as I want the earlier versions to tackle the harsher issues, while the later ones will deal with the finer details.

- builders shotgun
- stembuchet dieing

I know buildings were mentioned, but did you happen to remove the smoke/explosions that appear when a building is destroyed (just the smoke/effect cause that isn't mentioned)?

I haven't really noticed any differences w/ or w/o rain/ember, but I guess it logically should improve performance.

On a worse performing Vista Computer (that has better specs by a considerable margin, damn you vista, 4 GB of ram, newer processor, 512 MB gfx and still underperforms to a 2GBram 256MBgfx XP), I noticed that both team's healing glow effects cause a noticeable slowdown. Then again, that's probably due to fact that the Vista laptop's not worthy of the name "laptop". But apart from that, buildings and human siege dying were the main two for me.

Yup, they were in the same folder. Most buildings have a construction, idle, burning/lowHP, and death effect file, and I stopped ALL the particles from ALL those files. No one has any use of them at all. They're just flavor. (BBQ flavor, I guess).

Oh really? I had considered replacing the beast chloro effect with one more akin to the human shield effect (I can even change the color to anything I want). I thought the skin would be easier for a computer to handle than the rays flying up to the sky (which are another particle effect). This makes things trickier, because knowing a building is under such protection is CRUCIAL.

somehow the chloro effect causes no problems for me.
and it looks quite nice,
replacing it with the shield effect would suck pretty hard.
but you could make the buildings in the chloro radios glowing like the human buildings in the shield, but green instead of blue. but that will probably degrade the performance

i have pretty decent computer, and i play with all the settings almost high with great performance.
Sometimes i get very high FPS drop when im trying to place spawn portal as officer.
This happens when the transparent shape of portal is displayed ans you are finding the place to put the portal. This doesnt happen all of the times tho...
Anyone experiencing the same ?

By heal MBomber, I meant the healer units, not buildings (the glow), although buildings do lag (but the shield lags less)...myabe just make it a static ring around the buildings instead of glowy movements? (and the sky ray lags considerably, isn't just heal, it lags when I try to build a building due to the sky ray effect). Otherwise, as I said before, on my XP computer, the main/noticable lag was due to siege and buildings, so the current version (minus siege) is fine for me. Everything else is negligible (its just that as I noted on the Vista computer I tested, lots of effects lag the rig down)
