Default Blood on the Sand: Assemble your domus and fight!

Blood on the Sand: Assemble your domus and fight!

A few years ago I picked up a little indie game in which you hired mercenaries and fought them in turn based battles. It had some strategy combined with some management parts, and hence I found it entertaining for a while. I put it away for several years and came across the installer the other day, and thought it might make for a low effort, entertaining forum game.

The Premise

You are the leader of a small 4 person gladiator clan. Fight other clans to gain gold, use gold to train skills and purchase better equipment as well as resurrecting fallen comrades. Win the division and gain other awards!

The Setup

Six clans are available for setup each with starting gold of 12 000. You can specify what units to try and recruit from the pool and how much to use for equipment, training and as a reserve (suggestion on the easiest way to do so follows, however if you want to micromanage then go right ahead!)

Six clans make up a single division that will fight for one season (battle each other twice) and there will be some cup games against the higher divisions. At the end of the season, may the best clan win! (There will be some bonus awards for individual fighters as well)

The game will be flowing, so you give one set of orders at the start and those orders will be followed until the end of the season! (Once submitted, that’s it! You’ll just have to watch and see what happens )

The Entertainment

One well equipped minotaur or several goblins with posh crossbows? A couple of archers supported by a barbarian or two? As many dwarves as gold can buy? The choice is yours….

How to play

I’ll need the following from you (copy and paste this as a template):

Clan Name:
Clan Leader:
Clan Members x 3:

Gold Allocation to [Recruitment] [Equipment/Training/Reserve]

Clan Setup:

Example Setup:

Clan Name: Ikeaprawns
Clan Leader: Ikearumba
Clan Members: Prawno, Prawnissimo, Prawniola

Gold Allocation to [Recruitment] [Equipment/Training/Reserve]

[50%] [25%/15%/10%]

(I suggest at least 5% reserve for resurrecting clan members if they get killed in the first battle!)
(After the selection round – gold earned will be automatically spent on equipment and training as per above, with some left in reserve for resurrections)

Clan Setup:

Make Ikearumba a well equipped knight; try for one cheap priest and two orcs with bows.
Train Ikearumba as a priority in weapon skills, only boost the others in mana/bows if there’s the cash.
Ikearumba is a straight up sword and shield fighter – go for standard blows and get healed by the priest. Have the orcs go for headshots, first on healers, then melee guys then on the enemy ranged, unless the enemy is very weak, then go for torso shots.

Other examples which will work just as well:

“As many goblins as possible, train them all in endurance and buy them clubs”
“One well equipped barbarian and three archers. Forget training and get equipment”
“The biggest meatshield I can afford with the best armour and I don’t care about the rest”
“One knight, one priest, one archer and one rogue. Equip and train equally to their best skills”

Conflicts of Interest (can’t be in the same clan):

Aragans vs. Minotaurs
Knights vs. Black Knights
Giants vs. Goblins
Elves vs. Rogues
Drakes vs. Centaurs
Priests vs. Imps
Dwarves vs. Orcs
Mountain trolls vs. Archers
Druids vs. Witches
Barbarians vs. Mysteryarchs
Ogres vs. Wizards

Example Character Sheet and Merc List (will be randomised for the game):

For further details on spells, weapons, armour and the like, just peruse this folder:

(note – for bloodthirsty reasons, no armour is allowed!)

(note - This forum game requires a fair amount of thought at the start, however no additional input after that throughout the season, just wait and watch the results whilst placing your own side bets and bantering each other as you see fit!)

Now sign up and may the bloodiest, craziest gladiators win!

CLAN 1:Coolnesss

Clan: Winterfallen
Clan Leader: Jack the Frosty
Members: Coldie, Frostie, Snowie (Not Snowy!!1!)

Gold Allocation to [Recruitment] [Equipment/Training/Reserve]
Whatever it takes to get a mysteryarch badass.
Get me this badass Myseryarch then train him with all the money and buy him equipment with all the money.
Then get some meatshield goblins or some shit i don't care and just have them form a wall so that he doesn't take damage. Then he can cast cool spells n' shit and pwn them enemies. I suggest he also learn to cast some defencive spells like healing and shielding if he intends to survive but i don't really care. If you can't afford those goblins that okay too just make my mysteryarch badass.
EDIT: If mysteryarch cannot be aquired please acquire a wizard. Thank you.

CLAN 2:Reawup

Clan Name: Advanced Tech Peanuts
Clan Leader: Reauwp
Clan Members x 3: Like, A, Boss.

Gold Allocation to [Recruitment] [Equipment/Training/Reserve]
[60%] [9%,30%,1%]

Clan Setup:
Reauwp will be a strong fighter, no magic or range allowed. Minotaur/Dwarf preferred, they look awesome.
The 3 pawns will be 2 archers with decent weapons, and a preferably strong priestress, who will mostly focus on keeping the archers alive and Reauwp on full health.
Fuck Reserve, We'll train 'till we die. Lightly armoured, well-trained awesome fighters.
Train on headshots, mostly. Or shoot in the legs. Let 'em limp. Focus on weaker fighters first, gang-em-up. Make sure you take them out, and then focus on the 'big boss', run&gun.

CLAN 3: Perspectiv

Clan Name: 1 tall guy 3 short guys
Clan Leader: Jace the mindsculptor
Clan Members x 3: Le Kukskalle, Le Kukmun, Le Bajs

Gold Allocation to [3 dwarfs , 1 wiz] [45%/50%/5%]

Clan Setup: Equip the dwarfs with big manly meele weapons to compensate for their stubby penises, Train the wizard like a boss(mind magic plx) and then proceed to kick ass.

Draw a card.

- Perspektiv

4.Communty

Clan:
The Brain Dead Warriors
Clan Leader: Weirdo the No-brain
Members: Cruelo, Headless, Somokehead

Recruitment :
Knights, priestesses, dwarfs and druids (+barbarians if money)

Clan Setup:
Equip well the knights and dwarfs.
Boost mana of others.

Knights fight supported by priestesses and druids, dwarfs defend supporters or attack.

5.Evilrebel

Clan: JayJorn
Clan Leader: Jedufai Jornia
Members:
Krubock Elaexo, Ormygut Wadifok, Cathrine Smith

Setup:
Jayjorn is the greatest musical band in all of Eqahunig. The Elf, Jedufai, is the lead singer of the band, while the others, all orcs, are in the choir. All 3 of them are orcs. In the ring they fight by entrancing the enemy using their amazing singing voices. The backup plan is to have the orcs charge in front with Jedufai providing arrow and spell support.

Spend as much money as needed to get some skilled musicians. The rest will be distrubuted equally into (vocal) training and equipment. The elf has first priority in both cases and should receive a high quality microphone that doubles as a bow, as well as training to use it. The orcs have a tendency to be louder than the lead singer, so they don't need microphones. Just give them some sort of axes. Orcs loves axes. Keep 5% of the cash in reserve.

6. Qwernakus

Clan Name: Dragonbinders
Clan Leader: Elmvoran
Clan Member1: Werak
Clan Member2: Artret
Clan Member3: Rynhis

Gold Allocation: [40%] [15%/40%/5%]

Clan Setup:
-Clan is composed entirely of spellcasters and magical creatures.
-With the starting gold, purchase a Wizard, Druid and Priest.
-All shall recieve moderate all-around training, to make them all somewhat useful as both offensive, defensive and utilitarian units.
)
-Wizard focuses on direct damage dealing of all kinds. Offensive focus.
-Priest focuses on defensive magics such as shields, heals and dispells. Defensive focus.
-Druid focuses on utility and assistance magic such as curses, terrain-alteration and counterspells. Utility focus.
)
-Training focuses largely on spells and teamwork - optimally, nothing should ever hit the mages as they work together with shieldings, counterspelling, distraction and destruction.
)
-Aqquired gold should be spent on maintaining and improving existing members, however, another goal is also to purchase at least 1 dragon during the course of the game.

Somehow I have the feeling that I would do equally well whether I spend hours making advanced tactical plans or just give completely random orders.

Not quite! You create a clan yourself and submit what composition they should be. So if you want in - use the template provided in the first post and submit an entry!

Not really, although a lot of differently composed clans can do well. A team of four priests all training their longbow skills is not going to do well, just as an example

It's not something that's worth spending hours on though - a clan and set of good enough orders can be knocked together in about 10-20 minutes, and after that it's just observing the carnage and seeing who wins/gets awards/dies horrendously many times
