Default Savage 2 Map Contest 2nd Edition

Well, it's that time again.

I am interested in reviewing player-made maps, the best of which will be added to the official map rotation. Like last contest, the winners will receive a custom persistent item of their choice and the honor of having their map be made official.

Map specifications:
- Similar size to deadlock/hellpeak
- Good texture work/terrain deforming
- Limited scripted events (no player deaths for falling down canyons etc)

All maps must be submitted to me via email, fielding@s2games.com, by May 20th 2008.

I reserve the right to decline any map for any reason and once your map does become official, you agree that S2 has the right to modify/tweak it as necessary (typically I allow the original map maker to make any requested tweaks, though).

Submitted maps should be extremely polished and near-releasable state.

Like last time, I am happy to look at maps that are a work in progress and give feedback to help in their development.

At the moment there is no limit on how many maps may become official - but if I find that we simply have too many awesome maps, I reserve the right to choose the best of them and add the others at a later date.

These maps are aimed to be included with FCP2

Good luck, map makers!

Hm. I hope a slow spell + a whole bunch of angry hogs nearby will get through.

I don't agree. Of the maps in rotation now, Morning is the only one that needs tweaking that I can see. Other than that, what obvious things about the current maps need to be fixed?

I think the game can do with a few more maps, regardless of any problems that still need to be dealt with.

Elaborate? I quite enjoy xroads. Are you saying this because you think it's too big? That's not much of a reason to say it sucks at all. And how do you suppose they go about fixing it?

"Remove it from rotation plzkthx." Sure, just because you don't like it, ok. How often do you play this game anyway?

Sounds like a gimmick so they don't have to make their own maps, they can use all the maps they want, and because reward has no monetary value.

This is from a public point of view because 99% of the games are public:

@Sthenn the map takes too long to get involved into the action, whereas eden or deadlock you basically spawn right next to it. Crossroads forces you to walk extremely long distances just to get involved and like kiljade said it's just tug-o-war. It's not a match based on fighting enemy vs enemy, but instead it's a match of taking 4 guys and killing a base while the other team does the same. Then you have long distances so it's harder for you to react to aggressive moves the enemy does. My view to change it involves making the map smaller, and allowing more people to play on it. These both would allow for you to have much more active moments on the map.

Maybe it is, but what's so wrong about that? The player base would know best what kind of maps they would like to play and it gives the devs time to work on other things instead. And it's not like Fielding doesn't do anything to the maps. As he said, he tweaks them and provides feedback if needed as well.

And just because the reward doesn't have a price tag doesn't mean it's worthless. Not everyone in the game has the ability to pick and choose what kind of PI's they get. It's a fine reward indeed, and even if they were not offering it people would still make and submit maps because it's really not about the PI.

Edit: Make map smaller? It's the only large map in rotation. I find that the commander plays a huge role on this map compared to eden and deadlock. More places to sneak subs/gars in, more locations for backdoor, sneak, etc. Map awareness needs to be maintained at all times. There's a lot of gold on this map as well. I really don't know if it'd really be a good decision to make it smaller. I do, however, agree with the more people able to play on it though.
